science2business-Award - 1. Prize 17.03.2015

The CD Laboratory for Advanced Methods in River Monitoring, Modelling and Engineering was awarded with the 1st prize of the science2business-awards provided by BMWFW.

Evaluation Meeting 27.02.2012

Before the end of the second research year, an external evaluation of the Christian Doppler Laboratory was conducted as it is scheduled by the statutes of the Christian Doppler Society. Based on the evaluation report (submitted on 30th January 2012) and on the evaluation meeting on 27th February 2012, the external reviewers came to a very positive judgement. The Kuratorium of the Christian Doppler Society agreed during the course of its conference on the 16th March 2012 on basis of these evaluation results to the continuation of the CD Laboratory IM Fluss.

CD Laboratory Expansion 01.07.2012

The Christian Doppler Laboratory has been expanded by another module. Module 4 „Hydropower“ mainly deals with energy economy. The scope of research includes on the one hand the development of measures for minimizing negative effects of hydropeaking on aquatic ecology and on the other hand investigations related to the impacts of hydrokinetic facilities on river hydraulics and morphology. This new module is co-financed by the partners “Verein für Ökologie und Umweltforschung” and “Aqua Libre Entwicklungs-GmbH. After a review of the research proposal by international experts, the module was approved by the council of the Christian Doppler Research Association on 22nd of June 2012. The fascinating research in the subject area “Hydropower” started on 1st July 2012.

CONFERENCE on the Status and Future of the WORLD'S LARGE RIVERS 11.-14.04.2011

The Christian Doppler Laboratory for advanced methods in river monitoring, modelling and engineering contributed significantly with numerous oral and poster presentations to the success of this international conference. More information on this event is available under http://worldslargerivers.boku.ac.at.

Opening Ceremony 7.7.2010

More than hundred interested participants as well as numerous guests of honour attended the opening ceremony of the new Christian Doppler Laboratory for “advanced methods in river monitoring, modelling and engineering” in the festival hall of the BOKU main building. Their speeches – accompanied by the melodies of BOKU Brass – highlighted not only the idea of the Christian Doppler Society but also the distinctive feature of a laboratory dealing with river issues, covering some of the most urgent questions in this field of science.

Rector Univ.Prof. DI Dr. Martin H. Gerzabek welcomed the audience, followed by a presentation of the research topics by laboratory head Univ.Prof. DI Dr. Helmut Habersack. Afterwards, DI Hans-Peter Hasenbichler, director of via donau, introduced his organization as cooperation partner. Univ.Prof. Dr. Reinhart Kögerler, president of the Christian Doppler Society, dedicated his speech to the basic concept and progression of this research programme.

The formal opening of the laboratory was conducted by MR Dr. Ulrike Unterer from the federal ministry of economy, family and youth, in the name of state secretary Christine Marek, and Dr. Beatrix Karl in her role as federal minister of science and research.

Finally, Univ.Prof. Dr. Herwig Waidbacher, head of the department water – atmosphere – environment, and vice rector Univ.Prof. Dr. Josef Glößl expressed their congratulations.

The official start of the laboratory was marked by a symbolic gesture in which stones originating from the river bed were plunged into three columns filled with Danube gravel and water. Subsequently, minister Dr. Beatrix Karl and MR Dr. Ulrike Unterer handed the laboratory door plates to Prof. Helmut Habersack.

After this ceremonial act, the guests took the opportunity to get informed in relaxed atmosphere about the research questions and aims of the laboratory in direct discussion with members of the research group and the cooperation partners.
